We want to give back to the community all year round and we want to do it with the help of our Members. Share with us the causes close to your heart so that we can help fund local not-for-profits.

What we've been up to:

Supporting Ukraine

In response to the humanitarian crisis currently happening in Ukraine, we donated £2,000 to the DEC to help provide food, water, shelter and healthcare to refugees and displaced families.

Giving Back

Following a colleague vote, we gave £3,000 to five local not-for-profits doing excellent work in our community. These funds will go towards helping these organisations continue their work.

We've opened up voting to the public, and we want you to decide which local not-for-profits will receive a share of £2,000. Voting is open from 1st August 2022 until 26th September 2022.

If you know of a good cause that could benefit from the Community Stars fund, then you can apply on their behalf, at which point, we will get into contact with them.

Term and Conditions

  1. Applications will be accepted from local not-for-profit organisations, including charities, community groups, school projects, welfare organisations and youth and sports groups.
  2. Entries will only be accepted from organisations and groups based in, or for the benefit of, people in the following postcode areas: SK1, SK2, SK3, SK4, SK5, SK6, SK7, SK8, SK12.
  3. Funds will be shared out throughout 2022, draw dates will be announced via social media and email. Applications can be submitted until 15th November 2022, with the Vernon's panel of colleagues agreeing on the distribution of funds until 30th November. At this point, the final fund will be put to a public vote in December.  
  4. The Society may do appropriate checks to confirm the identity of the applicant(s) and organisation and may disqualify any organisation that is deemed to have submitted an untruthful application.
  5. In applying, you give consent for Vernon Building Society to refer to your organisation on social media and publicity material.
  6. Where possible, successful applicants will be required to provide a high-resolution logo in png format.
  7. In some circumstances, a group may be asked to provide further information.
  8. Members of the public are limited to one vote each.
  9. Submitting your application constitutes the acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  10. There is no alternative to the fund available and it will be donated at the discretion of the Society.
  11. No purchase necessary.
  12. Winners will be notified by email.
  13. All votes will be counted and verified by Vernon Building Society. In the event of a tie, a decision will be made by the Society.
  14. Vernon Building Society’s decision is final.
