Treating our people fairly matters to us. That’s why we pay the Real Living Wage - to support our team and give back to our community.
At the Vernon, we believe in building a stronger, fairer future - not just for our Members, but for our colleagues and our wider community. That’s why we’re proud to be an accredited Real Living Wage provider. The Real Living Wage is a commitment to ensuring that everyone earns enough to live on. Set independently each year by the Living Wage Foundation, this reflects the true cost of living based on household needs. Unlike the government’s minimum wage, it is a voluntary rate that employers choose to pay because they value fairness in the workplace.
By adopting the Real Living Wage, we’re demonstrating our commitment to treating our staff with respect and recognising the vital role they play within the Society, and paying a fair wage is one of the most meaningful ways we can show our appreciation for the hard work our team does every day. It’s about creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and motivated to do their jobs. When employees earn enough to cover essentials like food, housing, and transport, they’re better able to thrive, and so are their families and communities.
Everyone employed by Vernon Building Society - whether they’re working in our branches or head office - receives at least the Real Living Wage. We know that when our people feel secure and respected, they’re empowered to deliver exceptional service to our Members. The Living Wage is a foundation for well-being and stability, and it's part of how we build a stronger, more resilient organisation.
Being a Real Living Wage employer is just one part of our wider commitment to doing business responsibly and with heart. Whether it’s supporting local charities, being a sustainable lender, or creating a great place to work, we’re always looking for ways to make a positive difference.
As well as being a Real Living Wage provider, we also offer many other benefits to our colleagues. These include: 5 days holiday above the statutory minimum, a birthday holiday, 2 paid volunteering days, salary exchange for pension contribution, Bupa Cash-Plan and much more. We are committed to treating all colleagues with fairness and respect, which is why we continue to invest in benefits that support them, both in and out of work.
We’re proud to stand alongside hundreds of other organisations across the UK who believe in fairness, respect, and doing what’s right for our people.
