Our Community Stars Awardees

27th November 2023

We're excited to award the winners of our Community Stars fund.

Community Stars Winners Q4 | Vernon Building Society

As a mutual Building Society, we have a responsibility to give back to the community we serve. One way we do this is by supporting the local charities and not-for-profits doing important work in and around Stockport. That's why Community Stars exists: to celebrate and fund the non-profits that bring our community together. We're excited to share the awardees of the Community Stars funding:

  • £650 - Smart Works Greater Manchester

  • £650 - Independent Options North West

  • £500 - PIE: Pursuing Individual Excellence

  • £500 - Arts for Recovery in the Community (Arc)

  • £400 - Read Easy Stockport

  • £400 - Defibulous

  • £300 - Snowdrops Post Natal Depression Support Group

  • £300 - St Josephs Catholic Primary School

  • £200 - Reddish Community Together

  • £100 - Red Foxes Under 19

Jacqui Wood, Chief Executive of Arts for Recovery in the Community said:

"The support of the Vernon Building Society Community Stars fund will help us to offer more creative well-being activities to families, children, young people, and adults in Stockport who are facing real mental health challenges.

"Through taking part in supportive, welcoming art projects which will boost their confidence and mental health, they will be able to connect with others and realise that they are not alone."

Our CEO Steve Fletcher said: “We know members value these awards, which we’ve been making for over a decade to more than 100 local good causes.

“We are also aware the people of Stockport and East Cheshire choose to save with the Vernon because of the type of contribution our branches make to their local high streets and communities.

“We want to reach as many of the amazing non-profit groups as possible across the borough, from large established charities to smaller grassroots organisations. Our Community Stars scheme runs throughout the year, so it’s not too late to nominate your favourite group or charity.”
