Our St Petersgate Branch Refurbishment

29th April 2024

As part of our £1.2 million investment to improve our branch network over 2 years, we have refurbished our St Petersgate branch. We've created a fresh and contemporary look that makes better use of our space, and enables us to better support and engage with our local communities.

We've been in Stockport for 100 years and have seen many things change. Throughout that time, it's been our pleasure to serve this community whilst other banks and building societies have left Stockport. Refurbishing our St Petersgate branch is our commitment to the community and a message to those who remain - we're here to stay.

Our refurbishments

On our centenary day, we officially reopened our branch with a community event attended by our Members, local charities, and of course, our favourite, Vernon Bear!

We wanted a fresh and contemporary interior that makes better use of our space, while reflecting our modern look and feel. We've added additional meeting rooms to ensure a better experience for our Members and colleagues.

A new community space has been added to collaborate and engage with local charities, non-profit organisations, and community groups. It comes with a large meeting table, refreshments, WiFi and a screen for presentations. Our space is available during branch opening hours and is booked in advance.

Who was involved?

As with our recent branch refurbishments in Reddish and Hazel Grove, our branch was designed by Standing Space, and work was carried out by local contractors Monks Morton Design Interiors, Flexible Office and Sharp. During our two-month refurb, the branch remained open to our Members and customers at all times.

A big thank you to Pete Adamson, who supplied the photography for our large window etchings, showing off some landmarks of Stockport town centre!

Our Chief Executive Steve Fletcher said: “For 100 years, we’ve been delivering a personal service through our branch network, and we hope to do so for the next century.

“We’re absolutely committed to the high street. It’s why we’re bucking the trend by investing in our branches while others are closing them, and also by refusing to use automated answering services and overseas call centres.

“I can also reveal that we’re open to potential new branch locations, collaborations, and banking hubs in the future.”

We have committed to a £1.2 million investment over two years to update our branch network and show our Members that we are here to stay. Our Bramhall branch is next on the refurbishment list and we will be moving to a new site in the previously vacated Natwest building within the village! Keep your eyes peeled for updates to come.
