We’re excited to join the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter and champion fair and inclusive employment.
We’re proud and excited to announce that we’ve become a Member of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter - the UK’s first initiative of its kind, aimed at improving employment standards across Greater Manchester.
The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter aims to improve people's lives by supporting their employers to offer roles that provide better opportunities for them to grow, develop, and thrive in the workplace. It also contributes to a societal shift in the importance placed on the value and quality of work that is available, leaving 'any work is good work' behind. The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter also makes the business case for good employment - proving that treating people well isn't just 'right' to do, it enables employers to achieve more, contributing to a thriving economy.
The movement has 700,000+ employees covered by Supporters and Members, 2,000+ employers engaged in the process of becoming a supporter, 900+ employers that have made the commitment to good employment, and 150+ Supporters of the Charter that have achieved Member status.
As a proud Member of the Charter, we are committed to making a difference in our employees’ lives in all characteristics of Good Employment: secure work, flexible work, real living wage, engagement and voice, recruitment, people management, and health and wellbeing. The Vernon strives to provide work that is secure, flexible and fairly paid, ensuring our employees are developed and engaged, with their health and wellbeing a top priority.
At the Vernon, we believe in building a stronger, fairer future for our colleagues. We’re proud to stand alongside hundreds of other organisations across the UK who believe in creating a workplace where people feel valued.
Our Chief Executive Darren Ditchburn talks about why it's important to champion our people and deliver the best for our Members:
“We’re proud to become a member of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter. We’ve always been passionate about creating a workplace where our people feel valued, supported, and empowered to deliver the best for our members. We champion fair pay, flexible working, and a culture that puts our people first. This commitment strengthens our Society and contributes to the wider economic and social wellbeing of our community."
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said: “Congratulations to Vernon Building Society for becoming a Member of the Good Employment Charter. As our movement keeps growing, your commitment and dedication to promoting the characteristics of good employment is fantastic to see.
“Becoming a Member of the Charter is an accomplishment that employers like the Vernon should be proud of. You are making a positive impact and setting a high standard for others to follow.”
