A year on from our centenary, we visited St Joseph's Catholic Primary School to plant a tree in their Peace Garden.
A year on from our centenary, some of the Vernon gang had the pleasure of visiting our neighbours, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, to plant a tree in their Peace Garden. We held a small ceremony with their current school council who helped us to plant a flamingo tree, marking the spot where our centenary time capsule was placed in their Peace Garden last year. It was wonderful to re-visit the school and thank them for their help in our centenary year.
Ann Reeh, headteacher at St Joseph's said:
"Thank you to all at the Vernon Building Society for such a wonderful morning and including our school in your various celebrations. The children get so much pleasure, and learn so much from the projects they participate in, and we are very grateful to you for working closely with us. The tree looks beautiful and our Eco Committee will take very good care of it! Best wishes."
Andrea, from the Vernon, also said:
"We were eager to mark our Centenary anniversary and we felt it was important to link up with St Joseph's Catholic Primary school, as they were so integral to our celebrations last year. We were delighted when the school agreed to support us again, planting a tree where our time capsule had been laid by their school children last year. Their wonderful school council helped a small group of our colleagues, and Vernon Bear, plant a Flamingo tree - which the children could tell us all about. It was a delight to see the children's enthusiasm and we were thrilled to have St Joseph's help us mark our 101st birthday. The Vernon are thankful to have such great support throughout our communities."
We want to say a big thank you to St Joseph's for their contribution to the day and throughout our centenary year.
