Here's a round-up of our first round of Vernon Charitable Foundation grants in 2025. Keep reading to find out more!
Last year, we were pleased to announce the creation of the Vernon Charitable Foundation, which has more than £100,000 in the fund to support local charities doing great work in Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The Vernon Charitable Foundation is represented by three Vernon Trustees, Ian Wilson, Tracey Wright and Andy Smith, and joined by four external Trustees who bring a wealth of charity sector experience: Mark Lee, Sue O'Brien, Lord Goddard and Paul Brearley. Stagedoor Theatre Productions is an amateur musical and performing arts society producing lots of different types of theatre. The society was officially formed in 2014, due to the supportive feedback and response from their audience and those taking part in its first pantomime, 'Aladdin', in December 2013. Stagedoor Theatre Productions now aims to produce Pantomimes and other productions annually, whilst raising ongoing funds for their charity. The society has both adult and children’s sections and aims to keep performing arts fun and affordable, whilst also educational for those who wish to develop their skills.

Oughtrington Community Centre is a registered charity that is community-owned and volunteer-run. A space to connect and enjoy for the people of Lymm, Oughtrington and Heatley. In the late 1970’s the former Oughtrington Primary School was purchased by local residents from Cheshire County Council for use as a Community Centre. Since then, it has been owned by the community.

The Longford Neighbourhood Services Centre is a community café and centre which is based in Warrington. They offer community support around health and wellbeing, and also offer affordable food. They run activities like bingo and lunch groups as well. The charity provides a place where people can socialise, find assistance, access training, money advice, health workers, housing, and much more.

This facility is well used by the local community groups, they have 3 Dance troupes, 4 rugby teams, and football 1 to 1 skills training who use the facility. It is also used for christenings, weddings, birthday parties and community training. The building was refurbished in 2010 when it was purchased from the Church.

10th Oldham Knolls Lane Scout Group is a scout group volunteering with young people aged 5 to 18 years old, learning life skills and social skills. Scouts participate in a wide range of activities, primarily focused on personal development, and community involvement. They learn practical skills, develop leadership qualities, and build confidence through hands-on experiences.
