The Role

You will be expected to use your judgement, knowledge and experience to personally assess and individually underwrite applications for many types of residential lending and buy to let lending. You will need to deploy sound decision making using appropriate flexibility and delivering good customer care, whilst ensuring you operate within our risk appetite. 
 
The role involves positively and professionally liaising with our sales teams and mortgage intermediaries.  Direct customer contact is also required.
 
The ideal person will be confident and personable, with good communication skills, and with a positive approach to delivery of good customer and commercial outcomes.

Skills & Experience

Conversant and competent to underwrite both residential and buy to let mortgage applications in line with the Society’s Lending Policy, Criteria and risk appetite. Competence will need to be achieved under our Training & Competence Scheme.

The candidate should have proven experience (at least 2 years) in an underwriting or credit risk role in financial services and possess a good knowledge of mortgage regulation. CeMAP (or an equivalent professional qualification) is desirable, although support in achieving this will be available. 

You should have sound analytical and decision-making skills with a strong attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and literacy and good information technology skills. Good verbal and written communication skills are required.  There is a need to be highly organised, with the ability to be flexible and adaptable to prioritise changing workloads.  


Package: 
  • Up to £35,000 per annum based on skills and experience 
  • Pension scheme with 7.5% employer contributions and rising to 10% after 2 years following pension auto enrolment criteria after a 13-week postponement period
