Celebrating Stockport Pride

4th August 2022

Stockport celebrated in style last weekend, and the Vernon joined the party.

Split image showing scenes from a Pride celebration. The left side features a large crowd gathered behind a giant Progress Pride flag laid out across the street, with colourful performers and decorations. The right side shows a stage at the event with speakers and Pride flags hanging overhead. Banners on the barriers display the logos of Vernon Building Society and Magpie, indicating sponsorship.

Right on the doorstep of our Support Office, after a two-year delay, Stockport Pride was back with a bang.

The festivities started with a parade around Stockport Centre, followed by an afternoon of music on the Martyn Hett Stage, which the Vernon proudly sponsored. Acts included Jess Kemp, Xander, and Rowetta of Happy Monday fame. Then, only a few hours later, we watched the Lionesses make history by defeating Germany in the Women's Euro Finals. All in all, a fantastic day.

It was amazing to see so many people celebrating and supporting equality, inclusivity and diversity; sending a message of love and support to the LGBTQ+ community.

Events like this are what make our borough great, and here at the Vernon we're proud to support any event which promotes inclusion in our community.
