100 Years of Caring About What Matters

We're reflecting on an incredible centenary year

 

We're so proud to serve Greater Manchester and Cheshire as your local mutual building society. With over 100 years of bringing together borrowers and savers to reach their financial goals, together, we really are greater!

From helping returning soldiers to buy their own homes in 1945 to being a reassuring voice, easily contactable during economic downtimes in 2008, we’ve always been here for our Members, and still care about the things that really matter.

2024 marked our centenary, and we celebrated with our colleagues, Members and community. Throughout the year, we had many exciting events take place as we celebrated our milestone.

Our Centenary Event

27th March 2024, marked 100 years since the Vernon was founded in Stockport. We celebrated by officially reopening our refurbished St Petersgate Branch with some of our long-standing Members, colleagues, and community.

Vernon in the Park Family Fun Day

We further celebrated our centenary with our Family Fun Day at Vernon Park, and what a great day it was! We hosted the event in collaboration with Pure Innovations, and the day was packed with entertainment for the whole family.

Vernon Charitable Foundation Launch

As part of our commitment to giving back to local charities providing public benefit in Greater Manchester and Cheshire, we were excited to launch our Charitable Foundation in our centenary year. The Foundation has over £100,000 to support local charities in Greater Manchester and Cheshire who provide public benefit and are focused on the prevention and relief of poverty and community development.

Our St Petersgate Refurbishment

  • As a great way to celebrate our centenary day, we held the re-opening of our St Petersgate branch after its refurbishment.

Our Centenary Time Capsule

  • As part of our Centenary celebrations, we buried a time capsule with help from pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
