Here's a round-up of our fourth round of Vernon Charitable Foundation grants in 2025.
Last year, we announced the creation of the Vernon Charitable Foundation, which has a fund of over £100,000 to support local charities doing great work in Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The Foundation is represented by three Vernon trustees: Ian Wilson, Tracey Wright and Andy Smith. They're joined by four external trustees who bring a wealth of charity sector experience: Mark Lee, Sue O'Brien, Lord Goddard and Paul Brearley. Our fourth round of grants for 2025 have been awarded, keep reading to find out who they are.
Denton West End Community Library functions as a vibrant, volunteer-run community hub that extends beyond traditional book-lending services. Open on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday afternoons, and Saturday mornings, the facility is fully accessible to the public and relies heavily on local support and volunteer effort to sustain its operations. Visitors can utilise library amenities like computer access and printing, or participate in a diverse calendar of activities tailored for all ages, including knitting groups, choir practice, community cinema nights, rhyming sessions for children, and regular social gatherings at the "chatty table."

Whitefield Methodist Church serves as a vital hub for community well-being and engagement. Operating a range of community projects five mornings a week through its incorporated Oasis Centre, the church hosts activities such as "Oasis Soft Play" for toddlers, "Charlie's Angels Toddler Group", and "Afternoon Teas", along with a food pantry/café and Citizens Advice services. The church holds a weekly Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 am and actively promotes community spirit through a wide array of social activities and special events like their annual Nativity Festival.
